We live in a time where organs, tissues and bones can be created thanks to the power of 3D printing. Ever wonder what happens if you use 3D printing technology to create fake ivory tusks and rhino horns? Scientists at Silicon Valley startup Pembient are developing organic 3D printing technology that can print organic materials like bones and ivory that has the same texture, quality and weight of actual ivory and horns such that there's no way one can tell the real from the fake.
Their vision: To flood the market with fake black market goods such poaching no longer is profitable. This is rather ironic as they will be trolling the black market with fake black market items. Unless there's going to be black market police, these guys have a rather sustainable model selling fake goods to crooks while creating an ethical enterprise and stop extinction of many species.
